Putting Your Best Foot Forward
Amanda Gorman, the young poet who spoke at the Inauguration shared in an interview how she was a bit anxious at first when asked to compose the poem. But after working hard, and doing such a great job, she’s glad she put her best foot forward in writing the now famous poem, “The Hill We Climb.”
The expression “best foot forward.” To me, it represents our ability to use all our resources to do our best in a situation. We have moments of doubt and times that we get stuck in what we think will be bad situations forever. Our negative thoughts plague us with more doubt. But, when we stop and focus, we can learn to take one step at a time, putting our best foot forward toward success.
Best foot forward – evolves for us every day. Do we figure out how to move forward with our vaccine and mask behaviors? Do we overdose on news media or do we move about our day, and take some breaks from social and news media?
Today, my challenge is to focus on doing what I can do – using the information I have. Whether that means deciding how best to communicate with my clients, friends and family, I try to do my best. We can only do our best, and we get help from Above with the rest.
When my publisher first came up with the idea of “Best Foot Forward” as a title for my new upcoming book, I thought it was great because it exemplifies the idea of taking the good and the blessings that we have and moving forward that way. In my book, I tell the story of a setback that I had in my life around seven years ago, and how I overcame that challenge.
What does that expression “Best Foot Forward” mean to you? Is it a physical way of moving forward, or more of a cognitive way of moving forward. Who is a person in history who has put his or her best foot forward in order to overcome challenges?
