Passions + Addictions = Passiaddictions!
Passions are hobbies. Painting, coloring, drawing, knitting, playing music, and so forth.
People are “into” their hobbies. They enjoy doing them and keeping busy with their pastimes.
These days everyone is talking about their addictions – otherwise known as things that they can’t stop doing, which by the way is the actual definition of “addiction.”
When someone is addicted to alcohol or drugs, they cannot stop.
When someone is “addicted” to carbohydrates (that would be me!), they can’t stop (but wait! I haven’t had carbs in several days, right?).
But lately the word “addiction” has become loosely used for folks who have passions and interests that they enjoy. Dr. Abraham J. Twerski, M.D., discusses addictions in his own writings.
For the purpose of this post, we can call many passions “addictions” if we enjoy them so much that “cannot stop” doing them.
For example, writing.
I enjoy writing. I write every day and when I am writing, I am at peace. I really enjoy the process.
Am I addicted to writing? Maybe.
It is my passion.
The same can be said for any passion one has whether that is photography, cooking, baking, going to the theater, reading, skydiving,…
There are so many passions out there that people can choose from to enjoy in life.
Passions are hobbies that we do because we enjoy them and we grow and develop various interests in life that way. We widen our horizons.
So here’s to our Passiaddictions!

🙂 Ryan. Now how do you say Passions and addictions in Indonesian?? 🙂
hmmm… this is hard.
Addiction: kecanduan.
the hard one is passion. coz i don’t think there’s a word to describe it in Indonesian.
Interesting. What about “hobbies?” hmmm. (thanks so much for sharing!!)
hobbies: hobi
but, it’s not quite the same to says: passion.
Passiaddictions–like it.
I think when I get into a good writing flow, this is what it’s like. Sometimes I produce my best work when I’m like this. But, sometimes, I drop the ball on everything else around me. Then I need my husband and kids to stage an intervention. (“Imma, we need you to step away from the computer. It’s 7:15. We are hungry, we need hugs, and we have no clean pajamas.”)
I agree Becca! I can totally relate!
