Decisions on a Sunday
Today, my husband and I went to Home Depot to buy odds and ends for the house. We bought light bulbs, batteries, and a/c filters. We looked at flowers and appliances and flashlights.
For us this was huge. We almost never go shopping together on Sundays. I mean, the last time we did something like this was when we went to Costco a month ago.
Shopping for house items is one thing, but going with one’s spouse is another.
Heard in Home Depot on Aisle 25 B:
Me: Let’s buy this flashlight – we need one badly.
Him: Don’t we have a few flashlights already?
Me: Nope. The last time I needed one, I couldn’t find a complete flashlight with all its parts.
Him: Okay, okay, buy a flashlight.
Me: Let’s buy two, just in case we misplace one.
Having these conversations and making these decisions makes me wish that life were just all about choosing the right sized knob for the kitchen cabinet, or the right battery for the remote control.
Memories of Long-ago Sundays:
When our kids were growing up, Sundays were spent driving them to soccer, play-dates, and birthday parties. Between all that, we dealt with the frequent tantrum, squabble and other challenging scenario.
Sundays were hectic.
Nowadays, Sundays are hectic – in a very different way. My husband and I spend our day off from work doing any number of activities. These may include cleaning the house, grocery shopping, working on projects for our jobs, or just hanging out with the grandchildren.
But today was special – we went to Home Depot and bought light-bulbs, a/c filters, kitchen cabinet knobs, and batteries.
And…a couple flashlights.
How’s that for a day of accomplishments?
How did you spend your Sunday today?

Good for you– I hate HD trips– and rarely go w/ husband– B’dales for guys it’s been called. But sometimes these little mundane dates can be lots of fun.

I agree Lisa. It’s amazing how the things we used to find boring and mundane are now kind of conducive to bonding…
