An Ode to Vaccines
In the final days of Chanukah of 2020
The Pfizer scientists were busy a-plenty
So were Moderna and Johnson and Johnson
Each in there own way a vaccine were sponsorin’
The excitement in the air, trucks ready to unload
The morning was bright with good fortune to bode
The crowd counted down, the rockets were blast
To Coronavirus they hoped to bid bye at last.
So many vials all labeled with vaccines
They are off to the hospitals, oh what a scene
First for the healthcare, they’ll get it first
As First Responders they need it the worst
And of course the elderly who are so frail
They’re holed up and barely go out for their mail
Some think the kids and those moms who are mothers
Are not safe to get vaccinated so why should they bother?
So many questions are making their rounds
The vaccine was approved, some worry if it’s sound?
Just think how it’s better then catching the COVID,
Yet, people are fearful of vaccines- don’t love it.
Suspicious of Big Pharma, making the money
They worry Corona is some kind of phoney,
The vaccine was rolled out too fast for their taste
Barely enough time to test in such haste
Let’s have the bigshots just go get the needle
And not make us feel like we’re a bunch of weasels
Yet, again we know you don’t want to get corona,
When people are dying, it’s not such balogna
So maybe I better just get my thoughts straight
And not be so worried about what is the fate
Because at the end of the day, we do have a choice
As always in life, we can exercise our voice.
So what will be your choice with this thing?
Will you get stuck with the vaccine that may sting?
Or will you stay home and not get the shot?
Don’t worry about side effects; there aren’t a lot
Whatever you choose, may it be for the best.
May G-d guide you well to help in your quest
For peace and well-being, and health that is bright
As Chanukah last day shines all its eight lights.
