I always enjoyed listening to my 5 year old grandson tell me anecdotes about his playmates at school.

For example, he was concerned that Rebecca was allergic to yoghurt and so when another kid had that for lunch, Rebecca had to hold her nose. My grandson also shared with me when his friend Rachel went out of town to visit her Grandma and all about what Ariella brought for snack that day.

He seemed really interested in the girls, which did not surprise me, given his precociousness as a young man (Okay, okay, I”m sounding really prejudiced).

But seriously, when I showed up at his kindergarten graduation the other day and counted 9 girls and 4 boys in the straight row formed on the stage singing their ABC’s, I was stunned.

No wonder he only talked about the girls; there weren’t many boys to even talk about!

I have heard many people in our generation lament the disproportion between males and females when considering mating prospects. In fact, I am told that there is some sort of crisis or calamity going on, with a paucity of males to the many many females out there who are looking to date.

I have not looked at the Want Ads, or the dating sites lately, but I had my doubts about these allegations, thinking that maybe the so-called crisis is a by-product  of hysterical women who just want to find a perfect male with zero flaws – their fantasy guy out there.

But now I see they are right! There just aren’t enough boys being born these days. Seriously. Or maybe the boys are starting school later – (except for the 3 others who joined my grandson this past year).

What do you think? Do you think there are more females than males in the dating population?

I’m curious because — in a few decades, my grandson will either have his pick of the crop — or maybe the tide with turn? Who knows?
